Should there be a National Drunk Driving/DUI List?
Question by roar_finance: Should there be a National Drunk Driving/DUI List?
In America we are concerned with protecting ourselves from Crimes and acts that can lead up to them. For instance we have laws that register every sex offender in America to keep our kids safe. However, if you look at National Statitics over 16,694 people were killed in alcohol-related crashes – an average of one almost every half-hour. Many of these being children. So I think that if we are going to protect our children from one class of people, then we should also look at Drunk Drivers who tend to kill a lot more.

I got a “reckless driving” ticket in Virginia for driving 80 on 55 zone. Should I hire a lawyer?
Question by schoolbunny: I got a “reckless driving” ticket in Virginia for driving 80 on 55 zone. Should I hire a lawyer?
I have a pretty good record but I don’t know very much about Virginia traffic court. I am not sure if a lawyer can help. In virginia, apparently speeding over 25+mph is “reckless driving”. Does anyone know anything about traffic laws in Virginia? What exactly can a lawyer do for me?

see if they will reduce it to ‘careless driving’.
In florida, a reckless driving is what a dui is ‘reduced’ to. So your insurance company may look at it like that.

Should drunk driving be a felony on first the offense?
Question by Sid Justice: Should drunk driving be a felony on first the offense?
Here’s what I’m bothered by. In my state:
first offense = fine
second offense = time or jail
third offense = possible loss of license which they get back after going to a class.
And so on. One guy was in the paper on his 14th!
And think about this. For every time they catch a drunk driver, there’s got to be like 9 or 10 times he/she did it and wasn’t caught. So that’s like 30 trips behind the wheel before my state takes the license.

Should there be new drunk driving DUI laws in considering what exactly is over the limit?
Question by Ted Arcidi: Should there be new drunk driving DUI laws in considering what exactly is over the limit?
I, like everyone else am getting quite sick of blowing into a breathalyzer everytime I get pulled over by the police… I’m a big guy with a big tolerance for alchohol and I think its insane that the legal limit in my state is .08
I’m proposing a new idea, and I’d like some feedback. As part of driving tests, along with the written and the road test there should be a drunk test. This test (which is optional) will give the new driver an opportunity to particpate in a supervised test of intoxication.
At this point, the driver can be assesed and appointed a CORRECT BAC limit and it will be printed on his license.
So, now if I get pulled over and blow a .14, I can legally drive away since my body can handle it.
I think this will help out tremendously with DWI arrests, prison cells and it will also help out restaurants and bars as they will sell more.
Its not fair that we are all punished because some lightweight can’t handle their beer…

I think you’re full of yourself.
If you’re getting pulled over, you’re probably weaving or driving erratically, and the cops can see that. The first thing you lose when you start drinking is your judgement. So while you think you’re fine, everyone else can see your driving ability is impaired. Either stop drinking, or stop driving when you do.
If you don’t believe me, go back the next day, and ask to see the video of you that they took when they pulled you over.

What should the punishment for DUI be?
Question by roxiecat4200: What should the punishment for DUI be?
Do you think we (America) are too easy on DUI’s or not hard enough?
What would you like to see the punishment be? What about for multiple offenders? First time offenders with no criminal record or traffic violations?
sorry, I meant too hard…my son was calling me from the other room and I became distracted…and just finished as quick as I could=)

Yes, we are too easy on it. I feel that if someone is under the influence and they cause an accident where someone dies, then they should be executed. That would bring a dramatic drop to drinking and driving deaths but since we are a country that worries more about protecting the rights of murderers than the victims it will never happen.
